The Great British Insulation Scheme
A new scheme helping homeowners across Kent and Sussex with the cost of installing home insulation has just been launched.
The £1 billion Great British Insulation Scheme is designed to deliver improvements to the least energy-efficient homes, to tackle fuel poverty and help reduce energy bills.
It will support low-income and vulnerable households and will also be available to those living in homes withan Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of D-G, and within Council Taxbands A-D.
Families will be offered grants of up to £1,500 to install energy efficiency measures - such as roof, loft or cavitywall insulation - which could cut their annual energy bill by an average of between £300 to £400.
Eligibility
There are two groups that are eligible and can apply for the funding. The criteria for each group differs and they will also receive different levels of support. The two groups are labelled general and low income eligibility.
General group
To be eligible for the general group, you must meet the following criteria:
- live in a council tax bands A to D
- have an energy performance certificate rating of D to G
- if privately rented, your energy performance certificate rating must be in band D or E
Those in the general group will only be able to get one type of insulation installed, such as cavity wall insulation or loft Insulation, but not both. They may also have to pay a small contribution towards the cost.
Low income group:
To be eligible for the low-income group, homeowners must meet the following criteria:
- receive means-tested benefits
