Our customers had decided to convert a number of buildings attached to their beautiful barn to provide more modern living accommodation – and they asked us to upgrade their heating system - replacing their large, old oil boiler with a greener alternative.

The brief was to provide an air source heat pump system that could run heating and cooling in the newly refurbished annexe but also have enough “oomph” to keep them warm in the large, poorly insulated barn.

The heat loss on the barn was high, so we designed a system with a cascade of three Vaillant aroTherm Plus air source heat pumps that could cover the demand in winter, once the emitters were upgraded to fan-assisted radiators.

To help with the running costs we installed a 10KW solar PV array with battery storage.
